Netherlands at the bottom of cyber readiness table

Dutch companies are dangling at the bottom in terms of cyber readiness. Only 1 in 8 companies can call themselves an expert in this field, which corresponds to 12%, according to the Hiscox Cyber Readiness Report 2020. In the other countries in the report, it concerns respectively 13% (Spain), 17% (Germany), 18% (UK and France), 19% Belgium and 24% (Ireland and USA).

Although companies in all the countries mentioned have reported far fewer incidents (39% instead of 61%), the damage is many times higher ($ 1.8 billion instead of $ 1.2 billion).

The top 5 sectors in which the most money was lost due to cyber disruptions:

  1. Energy
  2. Financial
  3. Makingindustry
  4. Technology, Media and Telecom
  5. Pharmaceutical

According to the report, the big companies are in the line of fire. More than half of these companies have reported at least one incident. Furthermore, Hiscox sees a growing gap between best-prepared companies and least-prepared companies.
